In the original movie, Buffy was played by Kristy Swanson. She played a cheerleader at a school named Hemery High School.

She was a typical teenage girl and enjoyed shopping and hanging out with her friends. But her life changed one day when she met a man who told her that she was the chosen one. She was ‘the slayer’.

Of course she finds this hard to believe at first and doesn’t want anything to do with the man. But he eventually proves himself by describing a dream that she keeps having and she hasn’t told anyone about it. He then trains her to become a vampire slayer and she meets Oliver Pike, played by Luke Perry. His best friend is a vampire and is frequently saved by Buffy throughout the movie.

As the movie progresses she discovers that the main vampire king is out to get her. He is played by Rutger Hauer and has managed to kill all previous vampire slayers before Buffy. They eventually clash at the school dance and she manages to defeat him using some very unconventional methods that only Buffy could think of.

Although the movie inspired the TV series, it is quite different and the continuity doesn’t follow all the way through. However there were some very famous actors in the movie including Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Hilary Swank, Daivd Arquette, Ben Affleck and even Ricki Lake.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie made $16 million at the box office and had a debut at number 5. It cost $7 million to make so the profit would consider it to be a medium success. Of course, these days’ movies have a greater budget that allows them to include better special effects and to hire famous actors.

The only other actor to star in more than 100 episodes was Anthony Head who played Rupert Giles and starred in 123 episodes in total.

James Marsters, who played Spike, starred in 97 episodes. Then Emma Caulfield, who played Anya, appeared in a total of 85 episodes from when she joined the show in 1998.

Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn Summers, didn’t join the show until 2000 but starred in 66 episodes until the end of the show in 2003. Kristine Sutherland, who played Joyce Summers, starred in 57 episodes between 1997 and 2002. Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, starred in 57 episodes between 1996 to 1999 before leaving the show.

There were of course dozens more actors who appeared in the popular TV series but these are the main Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast.

The TV episodes was so popular it regularly had audiences of around 5 million for each episode. It was widely acclaimed for its storylines and acting performances. In fact it won 3 Emmy awards and was also nominated for the Golden Globe awards too.

The popularity also led to many Buffy related products such as comics, novels and video games. It also had a spin off show called Angel which wasn’t as popular as Buffy but was still enjoyed by many Buffy fans.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has gone on to star in lots of movies including Scream 2, Scooby-Doo, The Grudge, The Return, I Know What You Did Last Summer and more recently is starring in a popular TV series names Ringer.

She then appeared in many TV shows and had small roles in some movies. But it wasn’t until Buffy the Vampire Slayer that made her a famous face all over the World.

She won lots of acting awards for her role as Buffy including a Golden Globe Award nomination and 6 Teen Choice Awards.

She gave birth to her daughter in 2009 and took some time to spend with her family. However, this year she came back to acting and is starring in a new TV series called Ringer. She has stated that she loves the role as it gives her time to spend with her daughter and can work at the same time.

Sarah has also confirmed that she will be guest starring in All My Children where she has previously acted in the role of Kendall Hart.
